How a quote comes together

Ring us, or fill in the form with rough dimensions, what will park on the slab, and whether there is concrete to remove first. One local concrete company picks it up from there: a visit to the property, measurements and grade taken on the ground, a look at how the slab meets the garage and the street or the culvert, then a price in writing. The guides on this site exist so you can judge that price. There is no charge for any of it.

What people ring about

• Driveway replacements on older lots. Slabs poured thin, decades ago, over sand that was never compacted, now cracked through most of their panels and past the point where patching means anything.
• Culvert approaches on county roads. Properties outside the city limits where the drive crosses a bar ditch, and the pipe under it turns out to matter more than the concrete on top.
• Pads for something heavy. Fifth wheels, boat trailers off Lake Conroe, stock trailers, tractors, and standby generators, all of which load a slab in ways a driveway standard does not cover.
• Settled panels on newer builds. Sound concrete on recently placed fill that has dropped at a joint, which is a lifting job rather than a replacement, and gets quoted as a replacement more often than it should.

Why the ground here gets its own guides

Conroe sits on the Gulf Coastal Plain, and the soils underneath it were deposited rather than weathered out of rock. The USDA official series description for the Conroe series, typed in Montgomery County, records gravelly loamy fine sand at the surface over sandy clay loam and sandy clay formed in fluviomarine deposits of the Willis Formation, with permeability described as slow. The Splendora series, formed on Lissie Formation sediments, is moderately well to somewhat poorly drained with runoff described as medium to high.

What that means for flatwork is a bearing soil that changes through the year. USDA records a perched water table on the Splendora series between fifteen and twenty-eight inches deep from December through April, which is exactly the depth range a driveway subgrade cares about. Add Southeast Texas summers, where the working window on a pour is shorter than the same job in spring, and generic national driveway advice stops being much use. What a well-run concrete job looks like

• Thickness stated, not implied. A square-foot price is not comparable between two quotes unless both name the slab thickness, and the difference between four inches and six is real money on both sides of the ledger.
• The subgrade treated as part of the job. How much loose material comes off, what base goes back, and whether it is compacted are the parts that decide the outcome and the parts most often left vague.
• Joints planned rather than improvised. Concrete will crack; joints decide where. A layout drawn before the pour is the difference between a pattern and a problem.
• Licensing answered honestly. Texas does not issue a statewide contractor licence for this trade, so there is no state number to quote. Cities can require contractor registration in order to pull permits, and that varies from one city to the next.
